Diversity & Inclusion

  • An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

    — Martin Luther King, Jr.

ASCE recognizes the strategic and critical importance of advocating for and sustaining a diverse workforce and inclusive work environment. The Society is committed to implementing policies and programs designed to advance the profession by promoting an inclusive climate in the profession.

  • Policy Statement on Diversity

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) supports and encourages the equitable opportunity for all people to participate within the civil engineering profession without regard to gender or gender identity, race, national origin, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual orientation, disability, political affiliation, or family, marital, or economic status. The Society will promulgate and implement programs designed to advance the profession by promoting an inclusive climate in the profession.

The Annual Section and Branch Diversity Award was established in July 2003 by ASCE'S Committee on Diversity and Women in Civil Engineering (CDWCE), the predecessor of the current Committee on Diversity and Inclusion (CDI). Awards are presented each year to Sections, Branches, and Institutes demonstrating stellar and noteworthy efforts in promoting diversity and inclusion within the civil engineering profession.
